Spotify MCP

A multi-user MCP server that lets AI assistants search, play and queue music on your own Spotify account.

Illustration by me, not a figure from the project.

What it does

The server gives an AI assistant 27 tools for Spotify: searching, controlling playback, managing the queue and editing playlists. It runs on Cloudflare Workers with Durable Objects, using Hono for routing and Zod to validate every tool’s input.

The interesting part is the auth

An MCP client signs in through the Worker’s own OAuth endpoints, which then hand off to Spotify’s authorization flow, so each person connects their own account. Users bring their own Spotify app credentials. Refresh tokens and client credentials are stored encrypted, OAuth state is short-lived, and access tokens are cached and refreshed.

Trying it

The deployed endpoint requires OAuth, so there’s no public browser demo. The source and a step-by-step setup guide are on GitHub.
